Digital OTT App Analytics Solution

A comprehensive solution for capturing and organizing UI visuals from Android TV and Apple TV platforms, enhancing visual documentation for OTT apps.

Project Description

The project, titled 'Digital OTT App Analytics Solution,' was commissioned by a digital content aggregator focusing on over-the-top (OTT) app analytics. This solution was tailored for businesses involved in the entertainment industry, particularly those dealing with digital streaming services like Netflix, Hotstar, and YouTube TV. The client required a robust system to streamline the process of capturing, storing, and organizing user interface (UI) visuals from Android TV and Apple TV platforms. This need arose from the necessity to maintain a comprehensive visual documentation that could be used for analytics, future content curation, and integration. To accomplish this, Crazi Co developed a structured workflow that facilitates effortless capturing of high-quality screenshots and screen recordings. The system's architecture allows for consistent content curation and is designed to support future integration into a web interface. Additionally, a standardized visual documentation framework was created, focusing on important UI elements such as Home, Search, Player UI, and Settings across various OTT apps, including Amazon Prime, Hulu TV, Netflix, and Google TV. This project serves as a significant tool for businesses in the OTT industry, providing them with an organized, efficient, and reliable method of visual data capture and management. The resulting solution not only simplifies visual documentation but also ensures easy accessibility and future scalability.

Scope of Work

The primary goal of this project was to provide a seamless method for capturing high-quality visuals from multiple TV platforms, specifically Android TV and Apple TV. The client faced challenges in organizing and accessing a large volume of visual data across different platforms. Crazi Co aimed to tackle these issues by creating a solution that simplifies the process of capturing screenshots and screen recordings across OTT platforms. Key aspects of the project included setting up devices for optimal media capture, organizing visual assets in a structured manner, and ensuring easy reuse and accessibility of visual content. The services provided by Crazi Co encompassed the development of a cross-platform setup that can capture, store, and document visuals effectively. This setup was necessary because it addresses the need for a standardized, high-quality capture method that could be deployed across different OTT applications seamlessly.

Our Solution

Crazi Co implemented a multi-platform solution to support the client's requirements. The architecture included enabling Developer Mode and ADB debugging on Android TV to facilitate screenshot capturing and the use of terminal commands. For real-time mirroring and high-resolution screen recording, the tool Scrcpy was introduced. In terms of Apple TV, Xcode on macOS was utilized to connect via Developer Mode. Screenshots were captured through the 'Devices and Simulators' window, ensuring precision. A visual documentation framework was established to capture critical UI elements from various apps, ensuring consistency and quality. Additionally, an organized folder system was developed, differentiating between Android TV and Apple TV assets, which allows easy retrieval and integration. This meticulous setup and execution ensured that the client had a streamlined, efficient, and scalable solution for all their visual documentation needs.

Key Features

  • Android TV Setup: The solution enabled Developer Mode and ADB debugging to streamline the process of capturing screenshots via terminal commands. For enhanced functionality, the tool Scrcpy was integrated to allow real-time mirroring and high-resolution screen recording, providing a comprehensive suite for media capture on Android TV.

  • Apple TV Integration: Utilized Xcode on macOS to seamlessly connect and interact with Apple TV through Developer Mode. Screenshots were efficiently captured using the 'Devices and Simulators' window, ensuring that visuals were precise and adherent to the client's standards for quality.

  • Cross-Platform Standardization: Established a comprehensive visual documentation framework to systematically capture and document key UI elements such as Home, Search, Player UI, and Settings from a range of OTT apps, including Amazon Prime, Hulu TV, Netflix, and Google TV.

  • Organized Folder Structure: Developed a sophisticated folder structure and naming convention, which effectively organized screenshots into separate categories for Android TV and Apple TV. This organization permits easy retrieval and paves the way for future integration into web platforms.
