Project Description



Huma is a leading British healthcare platform designed to transform the way healthcare is delivered by offering a hospital-at-home model along with decentralized clinical trials. Built to seamlessly integrate health data from a variety of sources such as hospital databases, patient wearables, and mobile devices, Huma securely transmits critical information to healthcare providers in real-time. This robust platform extends its functionalities to serve digital-first healthcare systems, empowering them with tools to manage patient journeys, aid in accelerated research through virtual trials, and provide ongoing remote monitoring for patients. Healthcare professionals leverage Huma to access vital patient data whenever needed, facilitating better clinical decision-making and patient self-management. The platform enhances patient engagement by offering personalized care plans and clinical monitoring capabilities to ensure continuous oversight of health conditions. Scope of Work



The scope of the Huma project involved the development of a modular Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) platform aimed at both physiological and non-physiological monitoring of patients within professional healthcare environments. Our primary goal was to create an integrated, real-time data collection system from a range of compatible devices, aiding healthcare professionals in patient monitoring and management. The project demanded the building of a system capable of catering to diverse health conditions, allowing for intermittent or spot-check monitoring. Furthermore, the platform needed rigorous testing protocols to validate its performance, reliability, and data accuracy to meet stringent healthcare standards. Our challenge was to deliver a scalable and adaptable solution in order to address diverse user needs, accommodating dynamic healthcare demands that vary across different healthcare providers and environmental settings.




Our Solution



Our implementation for the Huma project encompassed a multi-faceted solution architecture grounded in advanced technology stacks and agile workflows. We collected physiological and non-physiological data from compatible devices through web and mobile applications. The platform facilitated clinical monitoring by healthcare professionals, enabling them to perform intermittent assessments and offer personalized care plans to patients. We established a comprehensive data display system, where collected data was presented on clinician web portals and patient applications, equipped with features such as dataset flagging, trend interpretation, goal-setting modules, and robust communication channels. The system's disease management capabilities included input labeling and flagging to monitor patient conditions proactively. Using data analytics, we provided predictive risk scores and static algorithms enhancing prognosis and diagnostic accuracy. The backend environment relied on Python with a Flask/Phoenix server architecture, MongoDB Atlas for database management, and cloud services from Google Cloud and AWS. The mobile and web interfaces were constructed using Kotlin and Angular frameworks respectively, integrated with myriad utilities and communication technologies to ensure seamless user experience and operational efficiency.
